Insurance for International Students Staying in China

According to the Temporary Regulations Governing Insurance Purchasing of International Students at Institutions of Higher Learning issued by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, the IS must buy a student group insurance package after their arrival. The Qingdao Branch of the China Life Insurance Company Limited has been selected as the OUC insurer for the student group insurance package. Degree students who do not participate in the group insurance package cannot enroll in OUC.

The group insurance premium of IS at OUC is RMB60 per year, RMB30 for six months.  

Insurance Claim Settlements: IS should contact the class supervisor or teachers in the Management Office for the IEC directly.

Notice for the Claim Settlement Application Materials for the Student Group Package Insurance

1. Materials required for a claim:

Official statement from OUC; a copy of the student’s passport; proxy statement (with signature)

2. Materials required for a claim settlement for Hospitalization Medical Treatment:

Paper materials issued by the hospitals designated or recognized by the insurance company: the medical records, the discharge summary, the original receipt of hospital expenses, the pharmacy details, the final bill, and the proof for the hospital transfer.

3. Materials required for a claim settlement of Diseases (0peration):

The diagnosing materials issued by the hospitals which are designated or recognized by the insurance company: the relevant case history, the certifications for disease diagnoses, various inspection reports, X-ray photographs, CT and the pathological examination results.  

Attention: When hospitalization is needed, the IS must remind the doctor to use medicines within the insurance coverage. A deposit book shall be opened in the Industry and Commercial Bank of China, the Agricultural Bank of China or the Rural Credit Cooperatives before a claim settlement.
